Jason M. Melton serves as Chief Legal Officer of DeWitt Law Firm, where he provides strategic leadership for the firm’s legal operations and helps oversee the litigation, evaluation, and resolution of complex personal injury and wrongful death cases. Working closely with the firm’s attorneys and legal professionals, he guides litigation strategy, promotes consistency in case development, and helps ensure every client receives exceptional legal representation.
With more than two decades of litigation experience, Jason has dedicated his career to representing individuals and families affected by catastrophic injuries, wrongful death, and other acts of negligence. Before entering private practice, he served as an Assistant State Attorney with Florida’s Eleventh Judicial Circuit and gained additional experience with the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas, the Office of General Counsel of the United States Small Business Administration, and the State’s Attorney’s Office for Montgomery County, Maryland.
Jason has earned recognition from many of the legal profession’s most respected organizations. He is a Life Member of both the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum, holds Martindale-Hubbell’s highest AV Preeminent® peer-review rating, has been selected as a Florida Super Lawyers honoree, was named one of the Nation’s Top 20 Motorcycle Injury Lawyers by the National Academy of Motorcycle Injury Lawyers, and has been recognized among the Top 100 High Stakes Litigators for handling cases valued in excess of $2 million.
Committed to advancing the legal profession, Jason is a founding member of the National Academy of Motorcycle Injury Lawyers and served as its President in 2023. He also previously served as President of the Hernando County Bar Association, served by appointment of the Chief Judge of Florida’s Fifth Judicial Circuit on the Hernando and Sumter County Professionalism Panel from 2013 through 2021, and has been a longtime member of both the Florida Justice Association and its predecessor, the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers.
Jason earned his Juris Doctor from The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law and participated in the University of San Diego School of Law’s Comparative Law Institute in Florence, Italy. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Southern Methodist University in 1996.
